Planning to apply to undergraduate universities abroad? If your target colleges accept SAT scores, registration is the first real deadline you’ll face — and it comes months before the exam itself. This guide covers everything you need for the 2026–27 SAT testing year: test dates, registration deadlines, fees in India, ID rules, score release dates, and what’s new this year.
All figures below are current as of August 2026 and taken from College Board’s official pages. Fees and dates do change, so confirm on satsuite.collegeboard.org before you pay.

What’s New for 2026–27
A few things have changed since the last testing year, and they matter on test day:
- Waitlist for full test centers. College Board has introduced a waitlist so students can be placed automatically if a seat opens at a full centre or date. This is currently rolling out for students testing in the U.S.
- Resizable on-screen calculator. The embedded Desmos calculator in Bluebook can now be resized, and charts, graphs and reference material support zoom and pan.
- More practice in Bluebook. Additional full-length adaptive practice tests have been added for the SAT Suite.
- Chromebook verified mode required. If you’re testing on a Chromebook, verified mode must be enabled for Bluebook to run.
- Windows 11 required. Windows 10 support has ended, so a Windows testing device must be on Windows 11.
- Accommodations update. Students approved for text-to-speech must test at a physical centre and bring their own wired, non-Bluetooth headphones.
Also worth remembering, since older guides still get this wrong: there is no SAT Essay and there are no SAT Subject Tests. Both were discontinued in 2021. The SAT is now fully digital, adaptive, and 2 hours 14 minutes long.

The test is multistage adaptive: your performance on the first module of a section determines whether the second module is harder or easier. Scores are reported on the familiar 400–1600 scale.
Calculator: allowed for the entire Math section — but not during Reading and Writing, when your handheld calculator must stay under your desk. Bluebook has a built-in Desmos calculator with graphing and scientific modes, so a handheld device is optional.
Who Can Register for the Digital SAT?
College Board sets no formal eligibility bar — no minimum marks, no minimum age, no restriction on how many times you can test.
- The SAT is designed for high school students applying to undergraduate programmes.
- Most students take it in Class 11 or Class 12, often twice, so there’s room to retake and superscore.
- Students under 13 cannot create their own College Board account; a parent or guardian must set it up and register on their behalf.
Digital SAT Test Dates and Deadlines 2026–27
Registration opens far earlier than most students expect — typically several months before test day, with fall and spring dates released in separate batches. Waiting until “a few weeks before” is how students end up paying late fees or travelling to a distant centre.

Notes for Indian students:
- All deadlines expire at 11:59 p.m. ET (U.S.) — that’s roughly 9:30 a.m. IST the following morning. Don’t cut it fine.
- Sunday testing is not offered in India, but every date above is a Saturday.
- Scores are usually released about two to four weeks after test day.
- If you’re applying in the Fall 2027 admissions cycle, the October and November 2026 dates are your safest bets for Early Decision and Early Action deadlines.

If you cancel by the deadline, College Board refunds your registration fee and charges the cancellation fee against it. Refunds start processing 3–5 business days after you cancel and go back to your original payment method.

A note on two fees you may see in older articles: there is no phone registration fee — the $15 phone charge is for retrieving scores, not registering — and the waitlist is free, not $53.
Fee waivers exist but are generally limited to eligible students testing in the U.S., so most Indian students should plan for the full $111.
How to Register for the Digital SAT: Step by Step
Step 1 — Create a College Board account. Go to collegeboard.org and sign up. Use your legal name exactly as it appears on the ID you’ll carry on test day. A mismatch can get you turned away at the centre.
Step 2 — Complete your student profile. Add your school details, academic background and activities. This also powers your Student Search Service matches with universities.
Step 3 — Choose your test date and centre. Search for centres near you inside the registration flow. Popular centres in metros fill up early — register the week registration opens if you can.
Step 4 — Upload your photo. It must be a clear, recognisable headshot; it appears on your admission ticket.
Step 5 — Pay the fee. Credit card or PayPal. Indian debit cards often fail on international transactions, so check with your bank first, and expect a forex markup on top of the $111.
Step 6 — Download Bluebook and complete exam setup. This is the step most students forget. Install Bluebook on the device you’ll test on, run exam setup, and print or save your admission ticket. Do this well before test day, not the night before.
What ID Do You Need on Test Day in India?
India has its own accepted-ID list, which is more generous than the general international rule:
- A valid passport with your name, photograph and signature, or
- A valid Aadhaar PVC Card with your name and photograph
Only the PVC card or hard-copy letter formats of Aadhaar are accepted — the digital or mAadhaar version on your phone will not be. If you’re testing in a country that isn’t your own, you’ll generally need a passport.
Check the official ID requirements page before test day; requirements differ by country and are enforced strictly.
Digital SAT Test Centres in India
Test centres operate across major Indian cities, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Jaipur, along with several boarding schools in places like Mussoorie, Dehradun and Kodaikanal.
Centre availability changes from one test date to the next, so treat any list — including this one — as indicative. Use the live test centre search inside the registration flow to see what’s actually open for your date, and register early: metro centres are usually the first to fill.
You can select only one centre per registration. Changing it later costs $34.
